The First ever games on the Field
The very first game recording of a real game football dates back to be first played in November 6, 1869 the Rutgers vs. Princeton. But this game was played long before, even dates back to the first settlements in the united states. Back then this game was played very different and it could get violent. It was first called mob football in the united states and there was only a few rules at first and this game was played in very large number and was high in injury rate. In 1869 the very first football game took place in America, the rules were quite different from today, for the players were not allowed to pick up the ball, insteaded they swipe the ball with there hands or kicking to advance to try to make a point. The ball was the same and the goal was also the same as today. Two north-eastern college teams played the first game, the games was Princeton VS.Rutgers, the Rutgers won. After this game many nort-eastern colleges played this game with many different rules each college had. It was in 1873 when the first Intercollegiate Football Association was established also called IFA.
But it was not until the 1880s when Walter Camp invented the rules we know today.
About Walter Camp
Walter Camp was born in Connecticut, New Britain, 1859.
Then his life on Earth sadly went to end in 1925, New York. His parents were Ellen and Leverett Camp. He went to Hokind Grammar School, his parents wanted him to be really good at writing and probably wanted him to take after his dad job. He finished high school in 1875 and went to college as an undergraduate student in 1876. He went to college as a medical student and playing football. He played halfback and was the team captain. It is very interesting to think that a person who studies medical plays a rough sport, football as the rules were so violent back then. That is probably why he change the rules, in the 1880s. In 1951, he was in the first class to be in the Football Hall of Fame.
