It was made because James Naismith worked at YMCA. The men were tired of the indoor games that they had always played. One of the leaders at YMCA told him to make a game to keep the men from boredom. He had two weeks to complete it. He made the game of basketball. The supplies you needed for basketball were: a rectangular space that is indoors, two elevated baskets, and of course a basketball. A women's basketball is a 28.5 inches. Men use a 29 inches, mostly because boys have bigger hands. Later on they added a three point line which was right behind the free throw line.
