Soccer was invented more than 2,000 years ago. It started in ancient China and 50 years later was played in China, Rome, Greece, and parts of Central America. At first the aim of this game was to kick a ball made of animal skin into a net and there was no rules. This is kind of like todays game of soccer. This was played this way till 1848, which is when the Cambridge University made the set of rules we know today. In 1871 the very first soccer union was formed called the Rugby Football Union. In 1872 the very first international football match was played, until 1886 is when the International Football Association Board was formed. Latter years or in 1913 this game became such a big deal that FIFA was formed. In 1930 what is so popular today was the very first World Cup. It was always played in black and white until 1974 when the very first World Cup in color was played.
